Welcome to Vicky L. Wilson Designs. Life has a way of waking you up sometimes, and my time was April 2004, when I was informed that I had to have emergency open heart surgery. It was a very traumatic experience for my family and I. As I began to heal, I started to do some soul searching and reconnecting. I would go for walks and began shooting photos of natural beauty. I began to realize that my major surgery had truly changed me and how I saw the world. I had a lot of time to think about who I am, and what I truly wanted to be or do for the rest of my life. I realized that I needed to find the creative side of me in order to make myself whole.

I craved something creative and signed up for a jewelry class at the Sitka Center over at the coast. It was the most exciting thing I had experienced in years. It was a three-day course of extensive instruction and I never wanted it to end. As I worked through the class I began to see my creative side slowly coming out and it was truly wonderful. I completed several pieces of jewelry to take home with me. My family and friends were quite pleased with my work and said that they never knew that I had a creative side. A month later, I returned to Sitka and completed the Advanced Metal Jewelry class as well.

I went home and purchased all the equipment I needed to set up a studio and went to work, and it has been the best thing I have ever done. I love to leave my door open while it is raining and listen to the rain as I work. I have taken additional jewelry workshops and self-taught myself additional techniques as the years have gone by.

When I am driving down the road I find myself viewing everything differently. Everything I see is a piece of art, and I have to pull over and sketch my jewelry design that I envision in my head before I forget it. Each piece is a miniature sculpture, very unique, and most pieces are one-of-a-kind. All of my pieces are designed and created out of my heart and soul, and all my pieces are made 100 percent by hand. I enjoy using a combination of metals - silver, copper, and brass.

I have been designing and creating my work, participating in shows, and teaching classes since 2004. When I began doing shows, many people would come up to my table and say that they did not have a creative bone in their body, or that they have always wanted to do something like my work. So I started teaching monthly jewelry classes in my studio. My reward is seeing my students find their creative side, as I truly believe everyone has one.

I have expanded my repetoire to include pieces for the home - metal wall pieces, custom door knockers, and copper stools. My work has been juried and accepted into many shows such as: Bend Summer Festival (4 years), West Linn Art Festival, SE Portland Artwalk (5 years), Portland Open Studios (2 years), and more. My work is currently being represented at Columbia Center for the Arts and at Roam and Shelter in Hood River, Oregon.

I hope you will enjoy a special piece that touches your spirit and soul.
